Dosa World is a South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant on Old Christchurch Road, a short walk from Bournemouth town centre in the East Cliff area. As the name suggests, dosas are the centrepiece, the thin, fermented rice-and-lentil crepes served across South India, alongside idlis, uttapams and a chaat menu that brings a different, snackier register to the table than the curry houses more common along the coast.
The menu
The kitchen splits its cooking across South Indian and Sri Lankan traditions, with separate sections for each on the menu. Beyond the dosa and idly range, there are vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters and mains, rice and noodle dishes, Indian breads and a short list of desserts. Vegetarian and vegan diners are well catered for throughout, not just on a token side menu, a point the restaurant makes a feature of, describing its approach as rooted in fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques.
Eating in, ordering out
Dosa World runs as a proper dine-in restaurant with table reservations, but it's equally set up for takeaway and delivery, including through Deliveroo, for anyone wanting South Indian food without the trip out. It also offers catering, party and buffet service, which suits it to group bookings and events as well as a straightforward dinner for two.
Good to know
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday, 12:00–3:00pm and 5:00–10:30pm, and closed on Mondays. As with any restaurant, hours and menu can shift, so it's worth checking directly or via its website before making a special trip. It sits within easy reach of the rest of East Cliff and Bournemouth town centre, making it a straightforward stop to combine with a wider look at our food & drink guide or a day exploring the things to do around Bournemouth.
