The Bournemouth Guide

When to Visit Bournemouth

The best times of year to enjoy Bournemouth, whatever you are after.

There is no single best time to visit Bournemouth it depends on whether you want lively beaches and events or peace, space and lower prices. Here is how the year breaks down.

Summer (June to August)

Peak season. The sands are at their liveliest, the sea is warm enough to swim, and the calendar is packed including the famous Air Festival and seafront fireworks. Expect the biggest crowds and the highest accommodation prices, so book well ahead.

Spring (March to May)

A lovely, underrated time to visit. The gardens burst into colour, the coast paths are quiet, and mild, bright days are perfect for walking without the summer bustle. Prices are gentler too.

Autumn (September to November)

Warm sea temperatures linger into September, and the softer light makes for beautiful clifftop walks. Arts and food events fill the calendar, and you will often have the beach almost to yourself.

Winter (December to February)

The quietest and most atmospheric season. The Christmas Tree Wonderland and festive markets light up the town in December, while bracing winter beach walks and cosy cafés define the new year. This is the time for a bargain break.

Our advice

For sun and buzz, choose July or August; for value and calm, aim for late spring or early autumn. Whenever you come, check what’s on for your dates and browse accommodation early. Explore each season in more detail across our seasonal guides.
