Espresso Kitchen is a small, independent coffee shop tucked into the Triangle, the cluster of independent bars, cafes and shops in West Cliff just back from Bournemouth's town centre. It's built its reputation on the coffee rather than the square footage, reviewers have rated it among the best cups in town.
The coffee
The espresso is the whole point here. Beans are Fairtrade and organic, ground fresh for every cup, with a house blend built around Ethiopian and Peruvian beans supplied by local roaster Beanpress Coffee Co, alongside a rotating guest espresso. Loose-leaf tea, a short list of home-made cakes, lavender has been a signature, and gluten-free and dairy-free options round out the counter. It's a coffee-first menu, so don't expect an all-day food offer.
Inside
"Tiny" undersells it. Espresso Kitchen packs surfboards on the ceiling, vintage telephones and repurposed kitchen implements turned into light fittings around a handful of tables, a couple of bar stools and a bench outside, all under quirky, DIY-feel decor. It's the kind of place that runs on chat with regulars as much as on espresso shots, so don't expect much elbow room at peak times.

Espresso Kitchen holds the Food Standards Agency's top Food Hygiene Rating of 5, awarded in 2025. As with any small independent, opening hours and exactly what's on the counter can shift, so it's worth checking directly before a special trip.
